Lightweight brick is an alternative building material for walls that has a lower density than red brick and concrete brick in general, so that it can minimize the load received by the structure and reduce the dimensions of the structure. Lightweight bricks have weaknesses in terms of compressive strength. Lightweight bricks can be made by adding additional materials to improve the quality so that they can carry heavier loads, including by using waste such as fly ash which is coal combustion waste whose grains are finer than portland cement and have pozzolanic properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal use of fly ash to obtain lightweight bricks with maximum compressive strength. This study used variations in composition with fly ash levels of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by weight of cement in cube samples with side lengths of 10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm. The compressive strength test was conducted at the age of 7, 14, 28, while the deformation (settlement) test was conducted at the age of 28 days. The results of compressive strength and settlement were then used to analyze the stress and strain values of the lightweight bricks. Based on the results of the research, the 10% fly ash variation at the age of 28 days obtained the greatest compressive strength value of 10.20 kN, a decrease of 9.440 mm, and a stress value of 1.20 N/mm2 and a strain of 0.094. So it can be concluded that the addition of 10% Fly Ash can increase the compressive strength value of lightweight bricks. The addition of fly ash to the lightweight brick mixture can be used as an innovation and reference for further research.
