Respon Indonesia atas Klaim Teritorial China di Laut Natuna Utara 2019-2024
This research aims to analyze the Indonesia's response to China's territorial claims in the North Natuna Sea 2019-2024, the North Natuna Sea is a sea that has enormous natural resources and the second largest economic route in the world. China unilaterally claims the North Natuna Sea as its sovereign area from historical factors based on the nine dash line to gain full advantage in the North Natuna Sea. This makes Indonesia not accept the claims made by China, because China violates UNCLOS 1982 and interferes with Indonesia's sovereign rights based on UNCLOS 1982.
This study uses a neorealist perspective that focuses on hedging behavior to respond to China's claims in the North Natuna Sea against Indonesia's EEZ. Hedging is one of many forms of alignment behavior. It can be distinguished from other alignment options (e.g. pure balancing and bandwagoning) especially in terms of its ambiguous, mixed and 'opposing' position, which shows elements of acceptance of power. Data collection in this study was carried out through document analysis. This study shows Indonesia's response to China's territorial claims in the North Natuna Sea. The path taken by Indonesia by cooperating with the United States, improving the map of Indonesia's territory by naming the North Natuna Sea and registering it with the UN as Indonesia's sovereign territory, Indonesia approaching Russia and ASEAN and maintaining good relations with China in terms of economy and security.
