Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Engineering Design Process (EDP) pada Materi Usaha dan Energi dan Pengaruhnya Terhadap Hasil Belajar dan Literasi Digital Siswa Tingkat SMP
This research is motivated by the importance of project-based learning in science learning which can support the achievement of learning goals in the independent curriculum and 21st century skills. Project-based learning can be implemented using the engineering design process model, where students will be able to learn more because students are directly involved. However, the facts in the field are that the application of the engineering design process model in science learning is still rare, which has an impact on student learning outcomes which are still low and students' skills in digital literacy. Apart from that, based on observations, it was found that teachers still have difficulty teaching work and energy material because the material is computational in nature, which causes students' daily test scores to still be low on work and energy material. The importance of learning innovation by integrating technology in science learning to support students' digital literacy skills, one of which is by using the Wizer.Me website. So, the solution to the problems found is to apply the engineering design process (EDP) learning model to work and energy material and its influence on learning outcomes and digital literacy for junior high school students.
The aim of this research is to determine the influence of student learning outcomes after implementing the EDP model, determine the influence of students' digital literacy abilities after implementing the EDP model, and determine the relationship between learning outcomes and students' digital literacy abilities. The benefits of this research can improve learning outcomes and students' digital literacy skills in work and energy material, for teachers as a learning innovation in implementing more effective project-based learning, as a reference material for other researchers in improving the quality of learning, as well as providing direct experience to researchers as prospective science teachers.
This type of research is quasi-experimental research. This research design uses a posttest only control group design, where there are two groups consisting of an experimental group and a control group. This research was carried out at SMPN 8 Pekanbaru in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The population in this study were all class VIII students at SMPN 8 Pekanbaru for the 2023/2024 academic year, consisting of 8 classes. The sampling technique was carried out using simple random sampling. So 1 experimental class with a total of 37 students was selected and 1 control class with a total of 37 students. The research stages carried out consisted of the design stage, implementation stage and final stage. The test instruments and learning tools that were developed were first tested for validity and limited trials. The data collection method uses student cognitive testing and student digital literacy methods. The research data is in the form of students' cognitive and digital literacy posttest results after implementing the EDP model. Posttest results are processed descriptively and inferentially. Hypothesis testing uses the MANOVA test, which first carries out prerequisite tests in the form of normality tests and homogeneity tests.
The research results show that the engineering design process (EDP) learning model influences the increase in learning outcomes in the experimental class by 8.0% compared to classes that use conventional learning with relatively low contribution values. The results further show that the EDP model assisted by the Google Classroom and Wizer.Me applications influences the increase in students' digital literacy skills by 18.8% better than the control class which applies conventional learning with a relatively very low coefficient. There is no significant correlation between learning outcomes and digital literacy abilities between the two variables, so it can be concluded that students' ability to use digital devices and resources effectively and efficiently in various learning contexts has no influence or relationship on students' academic outcomes.
Based on the results of research and data analysis, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the EDP learning model on student learning outcomes, and there is an influence of the EDP learning model on students' digital literacy abilities. Therefore, the application of the engineering design process (EDP) model in Work and Energy material for class VIII SMP is expected to be an innovation in the implementation of science learning, especially in improving learning outcomes and digital literacy skills of students at school, so that the quality of science learning increases and as a reference for future researchers.
