Studi Eksperimental Indirect Solar Dryer Dengan Fan Yang Ditenagai Photovoltaik (PV) Sebagai Pengering Buah Pinang (ARECA CATECHU L.)
Drying agricultural products using sunlight is considered the best method for green and sustainable conservation of agricultural products. Advancements in effective drying system designs and the characteristics of drying agricultural products will enhance conservation efforts. Sun drying methods appear beneficial as they help address major issues faced by developing countries, such as the rapid increase in fossil fuel prices and the threat of environmental pollution.
Solar Dryers are one method for drying areca nuts, where the working principle involves sunlight being absorbed or collected through a collector. The heat generated from the collector is carried by an airflow system to a plenum or heat collector chamber and then to a drying chamber consisting of several racks that maximize the use of solar radiation energy. The areca nuts to be tested are those that have been split in half. Areca nuts (Areca Catechu L) are an industrial plant with many benefits for humans. Like coconuts, areca nuts are versatile because they can be consumed from their roots to their fruit. Areca nuts are also a potential export commodity.
The testing was conducted using an indirect solar dryer for 5 days, with data collection every hour from 08:00 to 16:00. This testing produced satisfactory results, with the initial weight of the areca nuts being 9 kg, which reduced to 3,7 kg. The highest collector efficiency was 25,18%, and the highest drying efficiency was 29,88%.
