Pabrik Propilen Glikol Dari Gliserol Proses Dehydration-Hydrogenation Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Propilen Glikol (T-400)
ABSTRACT
Propylene glycol is one of the organic compounds commonly used as a food preservatives, cosmetic raw materials, wetting agents for chewing gum, monomer in the synthesis of polyester, and anti-freeze liquids. The demand for propylene glycol is increasing along with the development of the industry, especially the cosmetics and textile industries. The market value of propylene glycol globally will grow up to 4.4% or $4.7 million by 2024. Propylene glycol is produced through dehydration-hydrogenation of glycerol with 60,000 tons/year production capacity. The glycerol dehydration-hydrogenation reaction took place at 200°C and 35 atm using Cu/Al2O3 as the catalyst. There are four parts of production process, the raw materials preparation, the formation of propylene glycol through the process of dehydration-hydrogenation, separation, and purification and recycling of intermediate products. One of the main equipment needed in propylene glycol plants is the distillation used for the separation process. The economic analysis of the factory shows that the ROI value is 23,93%, the PBP is 4.18 years, the IRR is 27,02%, and the BEP is on the 4th year. Based on the results of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that a propylene glycol plant for the dehydration-hydrogenation process is feasible.
