Implementasi Pembangkitan Plasma Tegangan Tinggi Dengan Menggunakan Transformator Neon Sign Untuk Menuju Produksi Graphene Dari Karbon Aktif Tempurung Kelapa

ABSTRACT
Graphene is a two dimensional carbon material with superior properties such as high electrical conductivity, exceptional mechanical strength, and significant potential in various technological applications. This study aims to produce graphene from coconut shell-based activated carbon using the Arc Discharge method. High-voltage plasma was generated by a neon sign transformer with an output of 10 kV and 30 mA. The carbon conversion was conducted at an electrode gap of 1.5 cm with plasma durations of 5 and 10 minutes. The test results showed that at a 5-minute duration, the RMS voltage reached 2,320 V, current was 0.32 A, the energy used was 207,129.6 Joules, and the electric field strength was 1.788 kV/cm. Meanwhile, the 10-minute test produced an RMS voltage of 4,700 V, current of 0.16 A, energy used of 419,616 Joules, and an electric field strength of 3.623 kV/cm. XRD characterization results show a main peak at 2θ = 26°, indicating the successful conversion of activated carbon into graphene with a stacked structure, while SEM analysis reveals that the number and size of graphene sheets are influenced by the conversion duration, with 20 sheets averaging 0.933 μm in diameter formed after 5 minutes and 42 sheets averaging 0.771 μm in diameter formed after 10 minutes.
