Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Cumene Proses Polimeri/Lummus Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Cumene (T-102)
ABSTRACT
Cumene is considered a basic chemical product because it is used as a raw material in the
production of various other important chemical products. For one, cumene is used to produce
acetone, which is the base material for various products such as solvents. Cumene is sold to
subsequent chemical industries to produce plastics, resins, solvents, paints or other chemical
products and then sold to consumers. In addition, cumene also acts as an important intermediate
product in the manufacture of various industrial products such as nylon, polycarbonate, epoxy,
and others. Cumene is increasingly important in the petrochemical industry whose growth
continues to increase along with its growing benefits for the production of synthetic goods.
However, the need for cumene in Indonesia can be met by importing cumene from other countries.
Therefore, the establishment of a cumene plant will reduce the need for imports as well as increase
the country's revenue. The cumene plant was established in Kutawaru area, Central Cilacap
District, Cilacap Regency, Central Java in 2028 with a capacity of 67.000 tons/year.
Cumene is produced by polimeri/lummus process through alkylation reaction of benzene and
propylene with 3:1 ratio in liquid phase using PBE-1 zeolite catalyst. The alkylation reaction
takes place in a fixed bed single tube reactor (R-101) adiabatically to maintain the entire reaction
mixture in liquid phase. The transalkylation reaction takes place in a multitube fixed bed reactor
(R-102). Cumene is purified using cumene distillation column (T-102) to produce cumene
product purity of 99,9%. The cumene plant utilities are steam supply unit, water supply unit,
and electricity supply unit. The equipment in the plant is equipped with safety instruments and
process control instruments to ensure the production process runs well.
The cumene plant has a fixed capital investment of Rp.1.268.524.842.551,51; working
capital investment of Rp.223.857.325.156,15 and total production cost of
Rp.586.767.051.265,40. The products produced are sold with a revenue of Rp.1.510.773.994.613
per year. Profitability analysis shows a net present value (NPV) of Rp.223.417.377.488,43 with
a discounted internal rate of return (IRR) of 14,867%, break-even point (BEP) at 32,36%
production capacity, and payback period (PBP) of 3,345 years. Based on these results, the design
of a cumene plant with a polimeri/lummus process is considered feasible and a profitable
investment.
