ABSTRACT
Melamine is a chemical that has the formula C3H6N6 with another name 2-4-6 triamino 1-3-5 triazine. The need for melamine in Indonesia in the last five years was 133,803,190,000 tons. The main raw material in melamine synthesis is urea, which can be obtained domestically thanks to Indonesia's significant urea production. Establishment of a melamine factory to reduce the need for imports and increase state income. The melamine factory was established in Cikampek District, Karawang Regency, West Java in 2027 with a production capacity of 45,000 tons/year.
The process used to produce melamine is an endothermic reaction using melted urea with fludizing gas in the form of a mixture of NH3 and CO2 and an alumina catalyst. The reaction takes place under operating conditions of temperature 395°C and pressure 3.25 atm, producing the main product in the form of melamine and side products in the form of melam, melem, NH3 and CO2. The electricity needs in the melamine factory are met by steam turbines which are driven by steam. Water needs are obtained through purifying river water using the principles of coagulation and flocculation. Liquid waste comes from laboratory waste, maintenance waste and domestic waste. Gas waste in melamine factories is gaseous waste produced from industrial processes and contains organic and inorganic chemicals. Gas waste management includes installing filters, controlling exhaust emissions, removing particulate matter from exhaust air, and processing B3 waste. The factory is designed by implementing a network of heat exchangers. Equipment in the factory is equipped with safety instruments and process control instruments to ensure process performance, ensure stability and suppress external disturbances. The main tool design in this design is a crystalizer which functions to change the melamine gas phase into a solid. The type of crystallizer used is a crystallizer tank with cooling coil. The operating conditions for the scrubber are a temperature of 138°C with a pressure of 1 atm.
The melamine factory has a working time of 347 days/year and 24 hours/day. The factory operates for 47 weeks/year and 3 weeks/year are used for shut down, maintenances, and repairs. The form of the company is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a strategic business unit organizational system with 159 employees. Based on the results of the economic analysis, the melamine factory is feasible to build with a Payback Period (PBP) of 2.21 years, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 18%, a Break Event Point (BEP) of 30.63%, and a Net Present Value (NPV) of IDR 2.613.825.253.374.
