Persepsi Dan Upaya Masyarakat Dalam Menanggulangi Konflik Dengan Primata Di Desa Pandan Wangi Kecamatan Peranap Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu
ABSTRACT
Human-wildlife conflict was an increasing phenomenon in various regions, particularly in areas bordering natural habitats. One such conflict occurred between the community and primates in Pandan Wangi Village, Peranap District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. This study aimed to understand the community's perception of primates, the conflict they faced, and their efforts to mitigate it. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, collecting data through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings revealed that 86% of the community perceived primates as pests due to their frequent destruction of crops. The primary causes of conflict included habitat degradation (71%) and food scarcity (29%), which forced primates to enter farmlands and residential areas. Various mitigation strategies were identified, ranging from non-destructive approaches such as scaring primates away (43%) and using spiritus cannons (43%) to extreme measures like poisoning (14%). Additionally, 57% of respondents supported habitat protection, while 43% advocated for government policy implementation. The study concluded that a combination of conservation education, sustainable conflict mitigation strategies, and government involvement was necessary to balance human and primate coexistence.
