Sintesis Silika Gel Menggunakan Pasir Pantai Bengkalis Sebagai Sumber Silika
ABSTRACT
Silica gel is one of the silica-based materials that has quite extensive uses such as in the pharmaceutical industry, ceramics, paints and special applications in the chemical field. This study aims to synthesize silica gel from Bengkalis Beach sand by varying the concentration of HCl during gel formation. Silica gel is synthesized through several stages starting with the leaching process of the sand and continued with the preparation of sodium silicate solution. The next stage is the formation of gel deposits by adding HCl to the sodium silicate solution with variations in HCl concentrations of 1N, 3N and 5N. Gel maturation is carried out for 1x24 hours, the gel formed is filtered and dried at a temperature of 110⁰C. The largest yield was obtained when using 5N HCl 6,3%. Analysis of silica gel from Bengkalis Beach sand silica using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer showed typical absorption for Si-O-Si, Si-OH and SiO2 stretching vibrations respectively, namely 1011.91 cm-1, 3405.58 cm-1 and 1636.82 cm-1. The results of XRD analysis showed the absorption of amorphous SiO2 phase mixed with crystalline phase.
