Komposisi Hasil Tangkapan Utama Dan Sampingan Pada Alat Tangkap Jaring Insang Hanyut (Drift Gillnet) Di Perairan Desa Mekong Kabupaten Meranti Provinsi Riau
The Meranti Islands Regency, located in Riau Province, is an archipelagic region with abundant fishery resource potential. The waters of Mekong Village are one of the fish-producing areas in this region, with very turbid water conditions. This study aims to analyze the composition of the main and bycatch from the use of drift gillnets in the waters of Mekong Village. The method used was a survey through direct observation of fishing activities over eight days, from September 2 to 9, 2024. The data collected includes the type, number of individuals, and weight of the catch. The analysis was conducted descriptively by calculating the percentage of main and bycatch against the total catch. The research results show that the total catch reached 100.26 kg, consisting of six fish species. The main catch was the Biang fish (Ilisha elongata) with a weight of 75.4 kg (75.2%) and a total of 806 individuals (62.2%). Meanwhile, the bycatch includes Lomek Fish (Harpadon nehereus), Chicken Feather Fish (Tyssa mystax), Thorny Shrimp (Alphases spp), Parang Fish (Chirocentrus dorab), and Thorn Fish (Arius spp), with a total weight of 24.86 kg (24.8%) and several individuals totaling 490 (37.8%). The results of this study indicate that the drifting gill nets are quite selective towards the target fish. However, bycatch is still considered significant. Therefore, it is recommended that the mesh size of the net be modified to improve selectivity and maintain the sustainability of fishery resources in the waters of Mekong Village.
