ABSTRACT
Toothpaste is a preparation for cleaning and polishing the surface of teeth consisting of fine CaCO3 (calcium carbonate), mixed with glycerin plus natural ingredients to inhibit the growth of germs and provide a fresh taste so that users like it. This study used variations of betel leaf extract with the maceration method. The solvent used must be able to extract the desired substance without dissolving other materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the manufacture of toothpaste with variations of lime peel extract 1%, 2% and 3% as an additive with variations of glycerin 10 mL, 20 mL, 30 mL, 40 mL and 50 mL, and to study the effect of adding the amount of glycerin to the resulting toothpaste by testing the toothpaste preparation and determining the characteristics of the resulting toothpaste including, organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, spreadability and foam height. The results of this study the best toothpaste was produced with a variation of 10 mL glycerin and 3% lime peel extract and the effect of adding glycerin in making toothpaste resulted in a thinner texture, and the toothpaste obtained in this study had a texture that was in accordance with SNI 12-3524-1995, the lowest pH value with a variation of 50 mL glycerin and 3% lime peel extract was 6.71, while the highest pH value was found in a variation of 10 mL glycerin and 1% lime peel extract, which was 7.87 in accordance with the SNI 12-3524-1995 standard, the spreadability test value was around 2-4.5 cm, the homogeneity test where all samples produced were homogeneous and the foam height test where all samples produced had a foam height of no more than 15 mm.
