pembangunan jembatan tengku agung sultanah latifah dan dampaknya bagi kabupaten siak (2001- 2011)
This research examines the history and impact of the construction of the Tengku Agung Sultanah Latifah Bridge in Siak Regency, Riau, from 2001 to 2011. Before the bridge's construction, residents of Siak Sri Indrapura City faced various difficulties due to limited access across the Siak River, a nationally strategic river and a major transportation route. Reliance on pontoons, ferries, or wooden canoes resulted in long queues, lengthy journeys, and safety risks, especially for schoolchildren. These conditions also hampered economic and social growth, leaving Siak lagging behind other districts and considered a "ghost town."Recognizing these challenges, the first Regent of Siak, Arwin AS, took the initiative to build the bridge in 2002. The project faced opposition from the central government and legal challenges from shipping companies concerned about disrupting navigation. However, thanks to the local government's efforts, the bridge was successfully completed and inaugurated in 2007 by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The Tengku Agung Sultanah Latifah Bridge now serves not only as vital infrastructure, facilitating transportation and boosting economic activity, but also as a tourist attraction. This research aims to explore the challenges faced by the community before the bridge's construction, the construction process, and the significant impact it has had on the development of Siak Regency.
