Due to its population, land area, and natural resource potential, villages play an important role in national development. Recently, an alternative model of rural development has emerged that prioritizes sustainability in all its aspects. The main objective of this research is to help communities in Riau Province develop long-term plans for their village development by analyzing village characteristics based on their respective levels of progress and independence.
This research utilizes secondary data obtained from the official website of the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (https://idm.kemendesa.go.id/) to examine 1,591 villages spread across 10 districts in Riau Province. Data collection was carried out through literature review and related document studies. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test operated on SPSS version 25 software. Furthermore, using the SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results) framework, a sustainable village development strategy was developed.
The research results show that out of 1,591 villages, 53.6% are categorized as independent, 32.9% as advanced, and 13.5% as developing. Independent villages show superior performance in environmental, social, and economic aspects compared to other villages.
Analysis of social factors shows statistically significant differences between village groups with a p value (Asymp.Sig) below 0.05.
