North Rupat Beach is one of the tourist destinations located in Bengkalis Regency which has been designated as a National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN). The study of tourism suitability in terms of water quality parameters based on Attachment VIII of PP No. 22 of 2021 for Sea Water Quality Standards and the carrying capacity of the area is a problem that needs to be studied in order to increase the satisfaction and safety of tourists who carry out tourism activities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Tourism Suitability Index (IKW) for beach recreation and fishing in terms of water quality parameters, analyze the carrying capacity of the area and formulate a strategy for developing sustainable tourism in North Rupat. The method used is a survey and experiment with a descriptive research approach with data collected being quantitative, especially a SWOT analysis to optimize strengths and opportunities and minimize weaknesses and threats.
The results of the study showed that the IKW of North Rupat Beach for beach recreation obtained results of 86.9% in the very suitable category (S1) and the IKW of North Rupat Beach for fishing obtained results of 88.9% in the very suitable category (S1). The carrying capacity of the coastal tourism area in North Rupat has a capacity of 5,280 people/day. The tourism development strategy based on the SWOT analysis obtained the strategy used in the form of the SO strategy (Strengths-Opportunities). Where the strategies that can be done include: Utilizing government support to increase the availability of facilities and infrastructure, Maximizing more effective tourism promotion to introduce local culture and wisdom to domestic and foreign tourists, Creating Jobs Through the Development of Tourist Attractions that Prioritize Culture and the Environment, Optimizing the availability of accommodation to increase community income and Optimizing the role of stakeholders to maintain environmental cleanliness.
