pengembangan bahan ajar komik berbasis literasi kelautan di sekolah dasar
Marine literacy has not been optimally integrated into the national education curriculum, in terms of content proportion, material depth, and the availability of teaching resources. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate marine literacy topics from an early age into school learning. This study aims to: (1) Explore the development of comic-based teaching materials grounded in marine literacy in elementary schools; (2) Measure the validity and assess the feasibility of the comic-based marine literacy teaching materials; and (3) Determine the effectiveness of the comic-based teaching materials in enhancing marine knowledge, as well as students’ behaviors and attitudes toward the sea.
The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The limited trial subjects were fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 5 Rupat Utara, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and tests.
The results of the study show that the comic-based teaching materials grounded in marine literacy had a very high level of validity (combined average of 94.79%) based on assessments by subject matter, media, and language experts. Furthermore, the teaching materials were also declared highly feasible, as shown by the individual trial result of 95.83% and the small-scale trial result of 97.91%, both falling into the “Highly Feasible” category. In the large-scale trial, teacher responses reached 94.79%, and student responses reached 95.94%, both also in the “Highly Feasible” category.
In terms of effectiveness, the teaching material was able to enhance students’ marine knowledge as well as foster attitudes and behaviors that show care for the marine environment. The N-Gain analysis from the pretest and posttest showed an increase in marine knowledge of 0.649 (categorized as "Moderate"), and the T-test results, which indicated a significant difference (p < 0.05), suggest that the comic-based teaching material was effective in improving students' marine understanding. In addition, the questionnaires on attitudes and behaviors toward the marine environment also showed excellent results—83.88% for attitude and 88.21% for behavior.
In conclusion, the comic-based teaching materials grounded in marine literacy are valid, feasible, and effective in improving marine knowledge, as well as fostering caring attitudes and behaviors toward the marine environment among elementary school students.
