This study aims to determine the effect of the Jigsaw learning model on
students' understanding of explanatory text material in class XI of SMAN 1 Koto Gasib.
The background of this study is based on the low understanding of some students
towards explanatory text. This study uses a quantitative method with an experimental
design. The sample was selected randomly (random sampling) from the population of
class XI students. Data collection techniques include tests, interviews, and
documentation, while data analysis techniques use normality tests, homogeneity tests,
and hypothesis tests. The results showed that the average posttest in the experimental
class using the Jigsaw learning model was 86.32, higher than the control class using
the conventional model with an average of 80.59. The average pretest for the
experimental class was 66.18 and the control class was 66.47. A significant increase
was also seen in the category of student learning outcomes, where 80% of experimental
class students were in the high category, while 65% of control class students were in the
medium category. Thus, the Jigsaw learning model has proven effective in improving
students' understanding of explanatory text material.
