Sintesis Biodiesel Dengan Katalis Lempung Palas Aktivasi Naoh Yang Dikalsinasi Pada Suhu 300 Oc
Indonesian society’s demand of petroleum increase each year, especially for diesel oil consumption as a source of non-renewable fossil fuel, while the production of refinery decrease each year. To solve this problem, we need to find the alternative fuel, and one of them is biodiesel. Biodiesel is a renewable energy source and environmentally friendly because it can be decomposed by microba on nature, non toxic and having a low emission of carbon dioxide and sulphuric gas.In this experiment, biodiesel was synthesized by using Sunco cooking oil as raw material, methanol and clay activated NaOH as a catalyst. Biodiesel was synthesized by transesterification reaction with the variation of 5, 10, 20, and 25%b/bNaOH loading/clay, catalyst weight 2, 3, 4, and 5 g,reaction time : 4,6,8, and 10 h, and ratio of oil:methanol 1:3; 1:6 and 1:9 at temperature 61±1 oC.The optimum of biodiesel was characterized including :water content (gravimetric method), acid number (alkalimetric method), density, viscosity, flash point, carbon residue (gravimetric method), saponification number (acidimetric method), ion number (iodometric mehod), and cetane number. The maximum production of biodiesel was 75.43% under condition of 20%b/b NaOH loading/ clay, ratio of oil : methanol 1:6, reaction time 8 h, catalyst weight 3 g and reaction temperature 61±1 oC. The result of biodiesel characterization were 0.024% water content, acid number 0.372 mg KOH/g, density 870 kg/m3, viscosity 2.79 cSt, flash point 170 oC, carbon residue 0.025%, saponification number 220.10, iod number 39.92 g I2/100 g, and cetane number 62. The value of this biodiesel characteristic was in the range of biodiesel standar of SNI-041-7182-2006.
