Pemanfaatan Sisa Produksi Koagulan Cair Berbasis Lempung Alam Sebagai Adsorben Untuk Memperbaiki Beberapa Parameter Air Sungai Siak
Cengar natural clay has been used as a raw material for the synthesis of liquid coagulant and adsorbent. Cengar clay was containing metal oxides as a source of raw material liquid coagulant and adsorbent. Liquid coagulant was obtained through the calcination stage of clay at the temperature of 700 °C for 3 hours and leaching of 100 °C for 2 hours using 0.4 mol H2SO4. H2SO4 solution was used to dissolve Al and Fe contained in the clay to form Al2(SO4)3(aq) and Fe2(SO4)3(aq) that used as a coagulant. Side product of liquid coagulant synthesis was residue of activated sulfuric acid Cengar clay to use as an adsorbent. Liquid coagulant and adsorbent subsequently was used in the processing (coagulation and adsorption) Siak River water samples. The results of analysis coagulation and adsorption Siak River water samples were compared to PERMENKES No. 416/ MENKES/PER/IX/1990 "About the Terms and Water Quality Monitoring".
Analysis parameters Siak River water before coagulation were pH of 6.1; color intensity of 853 TCU, turbidity of 88.3 NTU and organic matter content of 56.5 mg/L. The results of research on the Siak River water samples after the coagulation had a pH of 6.6, color intensity of 245 TCU, turbidity of 17.9 NTU and organic matter content of 28.4 mg/L. When it was compared to PERMENKES No. 416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990, the results have not shown a decrease in optimal coagulation of the parameters water samples studied, so it needs to be followed by the adsorption process utilizing residue of activated sulfuric acid Cengar clay. The adsorption process were taken place by contacting 100 mL sample coagulation results with adsorbent in weight variations (2, 4 and 6 g) and contact times (2, 8, 12 and 24 hours). The results of adsorption able to reduce significantly the intensity of color, pH, turbidity and organic matter content. The optimum conditions of adsorption was the adsorbent RLC(4-12) (4 g adsorbent for 12 hours) produced characters Siak river water with a pH of 7, color intensity of 28 TCU, turbidity of 2.4 NTU and organic matter content of 7.36 mg/L. All values given of parameters have met to the quality standards was established under PERMENKES No. 416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990.
