Sintesis Gas Hidrogen Dan Tawas Dari Kaleng Bekas

A soft drink can, composed by several metals with the greatest content of aluminum metal. In the process of utilization of used tin as raw material of alum manufacturing, produced hydrogen gas. In this study, used tins are used for synthesis of hydrogen and alum gas by studying the effect of variation of potassium hydroxide concentration (KOH) and the influence of variations in the weight of tin cans in synthesis of hydrogen gas (H2) and alum. Variations of the weight of cans used are 2.5 grams; 5 grams and 7.5 grams. The variation of potassium hydroxide (KOH) concentration used was 10%, 15% and 20%. The synthesis process of hydrogen and alum gas from used cans is by reacting scrap cans with KOH solution in the reaction vessel. The results show that hydrogen and alum gas can be produced using used tins at alkaline atmosphere (KOH). The higher the concentration of KOH, the less reaction time and the greater volume of hydrogen and alum gas produced. The smaller the surface area of the can, the less reaction time and the greater volume of hydrogen and alum gas obtained. The fastest reaction time on the weight of the can is 7.5 gram using KOH 20% ie 13 minutes. The diameter of the balloon as the largest gas storage is 27.5 cm in weight of 7.5 grams of cans with 20% KOH equivalent to 10.883 liters of hydrogen gas. The most alum mass in the weight of cans of 7.5 gram with KOH 20% is 27.9 grams.
