Perubahan Sosial Ekonomi Suku Petalangan Di Desa Betung Kecamatan Pangkalan Kuras Kabupaten Pelalawan

Social phenomenon occurred in Petalangan Ethnicity in Betung Village showed
the changes on social and economic aspects. This study analyzed the social and
economic transformations happening before and after year 2000. Data analysis
was done by descriptive qualitative, and the data collection technique was
purposive from five ethnic leaders informants of Batin Monti Raja and Ninik
Mamak, Petalangan Ethnicity, Betung Village. Result from field research
discovered that there had been social and economic changes in Petalangan
Ethnicity, Betung Village in various aspects of education, health, tradition and
belief, occupation or source of livelihood as well as shelter or housing. The
changes were triggered by internal and external factors namely technology,
education, economics, government intervention, contact with foreign cultures, and
environmental changes. These impacted on social values and cultures that could
be indicated by the loss of some traditional rituals of Petalangan. The changing
dimensions taken place in Petalangan Ethnicity were the structural, cultural, and
interactional dimensions. Structural dimension was recognized by the change in
the structure of society with the emergence of new role and social institution
within Petalangan society. Cultural dimension was acknowledged by the existence
of diffusion process and cultural contact. Interactional dimension was shown by
the changes in interacting patterns of social relationship amongst people of
Petalangan, Betung Village.
