A Study On The Ability Of The Second Semester Students Of English Study Program Fkip Universitas Riau In Changing Active Sentences Into Passive Voice

This descriptive study aimed to find out the ability of the Second Semester Students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau in changing active sentences into passive voice. There were 37 students as the sample of this research. The data were collected by administering a set of test to the students in the form of written test and were analyzed quantitatively. The findings of the study were as in the following: (a). In changing active sentences into passive voice in simple past tense in the form of positive sentences is (63.00) in Good level, negative form (53.51) is in Mediocre level, (b). In Simple Present Tense: positive form (67.02) in Good level, negative form (67.56) in Good level, (c). In Simple Future Tense: positive form (52.4) in Mediocre level, negative form (53.51) in Mediocre level so, the real mean score was 59.49 in Mediocre level. The implication of the finding was that the Second Semester Students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau should improve their ability in understanding the formula of each tense of passive voice, properly and correctly in order to reach the Excellent level.
