The Effect Of Using Jigsaw Strategy On The Ability Of The First Year Students Of SMPN 1 Pekanbaru In Comprehending Descriptive Texts
This pre-experimental research was aimed to find out whether or not there was a significant effect of using Jigsaw Strategy on the ability of the first year students of SMPN 1 Pekanbaru in comprehending descriptive texts. The research design was pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample was VII HN chosen by using cluster sampling technique. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 23. The result of the data analysis showed that mean score of the pre-test was 70.27 and the mean score of the post-test was 85.29. In other words, the mean score of the post-test was higher than the pre-test. The result also showed that the value of t-test was higher than t-table (13.880 > 2.034) at significance level of 5%. It means that (Ha) hypothesis was accepted. There was a significant effect of using Jigsaw Strategy on the ability of the first year students of SMPN 1 Pekanbaru in comprehending Descriptive Texts. Based on the findings of this study, it can be suggested that the strategy is expected to be implemented to improve the students reading ability in terms of language components, such as difficult words and restatement, as well as other aspects of reading comprehension.
