Pengolahan Limbah Cair Pulp Dan Kertas Dengan Proses Koagulasi-Flokulasi Dan Membran Ultrafiltrasi
ABSTRACT
The pulp and paper industry on its activities is uses water in significant quantities,
and it becomes a major component and determinant of product quality. High water
consumption causes the pulp and paper industry to create large amounts of
wastewater. Pollutants contained in this waste include suspended solids, color
compounds, heavy metals, organic and inorganic substances, phenol, chlorine,
cyanides, sulfides, and other solutes. This study is aims to study the effect of
variations in aluminium sulfate (Alum) and coagulant and membrane operating
pressure in the pulp and paper industry wastewater treatment process using
ultrafiltrasi (UF) membran with help of coagulation-flocculation as a pretreatment.
In the coagulation-flocculation process alum is used as coagulant with
variations in concentration 4, 6 and 8 g/L. The process was completed by fast
stirring 200 rpm for 5 minutes and continued with slow stirring 60 rpm for 10
minutes then settling time for 120 minutes. The ultrafiltration membrane process
was carried out for 60 minutes with variations in operating pressure at 1, 3 and 5
bars. In each treatment process, the wastewater quality is tested with the some
parameters such as pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen
demand (COD) and total suspended solid (TSS). In addition, analysis was also
carried out in the form of permeate flux and percentage of UF membrane rejection.
Based on the analysis of the research results, the best coagulant dose was found at
8 g/L with a reduction percentage of BOD5, COD, and TSS each of 91.07%; 47.79%
and 95.24% while the highest percentage of UF membrane rejection at a pressure
of 5 bar is equal to 84.92% BOD5; 84.71% COD and 62.5% TSS with flux values
of 53.69 L/m2.hours.
