Kualitas Wood Plastic Composite (Wpc) Dari Serat Kulit Buah Nipah (Nypa Fruticans Wurmb.) Dengan Perekat Limbah Plastik Polipropilena Dan Plastik Polipropilena
ABSTRACT
WPC is ideal to be developed as a substitute for the main wood product,
because at this time the productivity of wood has decreased significantly and the
human need for wood products continues to increase. Nipah fruit skin can be used
as a raw material for making WPC because it has fiber and lignocellulose as well
as extractive substances so that it is soaked with 18% NaOH for 2 hours and
polypropylene (PP) plastic is a thermoplastic that is stiff, more environmentally
friendly and cheap and PP waste is difficult to decompose by soil
microorganisms. This study aims to determine the effect of the ratio and type of
PP on the quality of WPC produced from these raw materials. The levels of PP
levels used were 100%, 90%, 80% and 70%. The WPC is made in size
(15x10x0.3) cm with a target density of 0.8 gr / cm³, pressing temperature 180 ° C
with a pressure of 20 MPa for 15 minutes for raw materials for nipah fruit peel
fiber and PP plastic waste and 230 ° C with a pressure of 20 MPa for 15 minutes
for nipah fruit skin fiber and pure PP plastic. Each treatment was repeated 3 times.
Testing of physical and mechanical properties was carried out based on SNI 8154:
2015 standards and morphological analysis was carried out to determine the
strength of the WPC. The results showed that the nipah fruit peel fiber with pure
PP and PP waste adhesive can be used as raw material for making WPC. It has
physical properties, namely density ranges from 0.535 gr / cm³- 0.825 gr / cm³,
moisture content ranges from 0% -3.921%, absorption capacity. water ranges
from 0.042% -18.05%, thick development ranges from 0.45% -3.127%. The value
of mechanical properties, namely MOR ranged from 184,115 N / mm²-659,841 N
/ mm², MOE ranged from 223,707 N / mm²-1335,610 N / mm², tensile strength
ranged from 2,051 MPa-28,408 Mpa. Pure PP has a particle structure that is
denser but more brittle than waste PP, but pure PP has the appearance of spots on
the outer surface while WPC with waste PP is more compact because of the
relatively same particle size.
