Pengaruh Penambahan Variasi Massa Partikel Oksida Besi Α-Fe2o3 Terhadap Efisiensi Degradasi Metilen Biru
Research on synthesis of magnetic iron oxide particles, structural properties,
magnetic composition, and its application to degrade the methylene blue from
aqueous solution has been carried out. The samples of natural sand were
collected from Logas village, Kuantan Singingi Regency and were processed
using iron sand separator (ISS) prior to multi-step ball milling process. The
products of ISS were milled using ball milling method for 90 hours then the
magnetic particles was separated using a Neodymium Iron Boron ( NdFeB )
magnet and obtained magnetic particles ( concentrate II ). Next, concentrate II
was milled again using ball milling for another 30 hours ( concentrate III). The
results show that the total magnetic induction, magnetic susceptibility, and mass
susceptibility increase as the ball milling time increases. The value is in the
interval of particle iron oxide. The structural properties of the synthesized sample
were measured using X-Ray Diffractometer. The result shows that some
diffraction peaks from other crystalline forms such as silicon (Si) and titanium
(Ti) were detected, which demonstrate that these magnetic iron oxide particles
(α-Fe2O3) samples are not purely hematite as confirmed by X-Ray Fluorescence
Spectroscopy (XRF) results. Moreover, the results also show the magnetic iron
oxide particles synthesized using a multi-step ball milling have an excellent ability
to degrade methylene blue from aqueous solution. Magnetic iron oxide particles
were able to degrade methylene blue for 14 hours by 95,72 %.
Key Words : natural sand, ball milling, magnetic susceptibility, degradation, (α-
