Karakteristik Papan Partikel Dari Serat Buah Bintaro (Cerbera Manghas) Dengan Perlakuan Perendaman Bahan Baku Dan Menggunakan Perekat Asam Sitrat-Sukrosa
ABSTRACT
The fruit of Bintaro (Cerbera manghas) can be used as raw material for making particle boards,
because it has fiber and lignocellulose. This research aimed to determine the effect of immersion
in water, as well as the effect of the adhesive content of citric acid and sucrose on the
characteristics of the particleboard produced from Bintaro fruit particle. The use of citric acidsucrose
adhesive is a potential natural material as a natural adhesive, and is a potential
alternative to formaldehyde-based synthetic adhesives. The variable used in this experiment was
resin content in 20 wt% and 30 wt% .The particle board made was 25 cm x 25 cm x 0,9 cm, the
target density was 0.8 g/cm3, the pressing temperature was 200˚C for 10 minutes, and the
pressure was 6,5 MPa. Each treatment performed in triplicate. Testing of physical and
mechanical properties based on JIS A 5908:2003. The average values of physical properties
obtained were such as density at 0,78 g/cm3, moisture content at 7,218%, water absorption at
72,56%, and thickness swelling at 23,91%, and the mechanical properties such as MOE at
2037,45 N/mm2, MOR at 17,88 N/mm2, internal bonding strength at 1,157 N/mm2, and screw
holding at 530,6 N. Overall, the values obtained met the test standards, except thickness swelling
with values above 12%, and water absorption which is not required on JIS A 5908:2003.
