Cacat Pengerjaan Kayu Meranti Batu (Shorea Platyclados) Sebagai Bahan Baku Pembuatan Speed Boat Di Tembilahan

ABSTRACT
One of the places for making speed boat in Tembilahan is Panglong Amat.
Panglong has been established since 2000 until now. The wood used by Panglong
Amat as the raw material for making speed boat is Meranti Batu wood (Shorea
platyclados) because it can last longer in water, and the availability of raw
materials is quite a lot. In making a speed boat, several errors can occur and cause
defects in the speed boat. The purpose of this study was to determine defects in
woodworking in the process of making speed boats using Meranti Batu wood
(Shorea platyclados). The research method is based on ASTM (American
Standard Testing and Materials) D-1666-87 (1999). The test sample for each type
of wood is in the form of a board measuring 120 x 17 x 5 cm, five boards for each
wood sample. The making of a speed boat using meranti batu wood (Shorea
platyclados) through several stages, namely sanding, drilling, cutting, sanding and
shaping or routers. The results of the research showed that each stage process had
an average percentage of wood defects, namely 5.15% salting, 12.48% drilling,
13.74% cutting, 9% sanding, and 2.567% router. The five stages of the process
carried out all have an average percentage of work defects that do not exceed 20%
and are included in the working properties class I. The meranti batu wood (Shorea
platyclados) used has a high moisture content with an average percentage value of
14.2 %.
