Komunikasi Pemberdayaan Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah Kabupaten Kepulauan Meranti Kepada Masyarakat Dalam Menanggulangi Kebakaran Lahan Dan Hutan (Karhutla)
Forest and land fires (karhutla) still frequently occur in Riau Province, one of the fire-prone areas in Riau Province, especially in Meranti Islands Regency, which are peatlands and sago and rubber plantations which are difficult to extinguish, which have resulted in fires of community plantations. One of the activities that have been carried out by the Regional Disaster Management Agency is by conducting active outreach to all the people of the Meranti Islands. The Regional Disaster Management Agency also collaborates with the MPA (Masyarakat Peduli Api) organization in disseminating the importance of understanding forest and land fires. This study uses a qualitative research method with descriptive analysis by describing the condition of the subject or object of research based on visible facts. The selection of informants in this study was carried out using a purposive technique. Purposive technique is a strategy to determine the most common informants in qualitative research, namely determining the group of participants who become informants according to the selected criteria that are relevant to the research problem. The results showed that the Communication for Empowerment of the Meranti Islands Regional Disaster Management Agency is to help the community so that they care more about the environment around the community where the community lives, so that there are no more forest and forestry fields that threaten people's homes and lands. With this, the Meranti Islands Regional Disaster Management Agency runs an empowerment program in every village in the Meranti Islands called Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA). This Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) was created in every village to help the community and to be more concerned with the forests in their villages so that they would better understand the dangers of forest and land fires (KARHUTLA). Keywords: Empowerment Communication, Meranti Islands Regional Disaster Management Agency, Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA).
