Kualitas Wood Plastic Composite (Wpc) Dari Serat Buah Bintaro (Cerbera Manghas) Dengan Matriks Limbah Plastik Polypropylene
ABSTRACT
The fruit of Bintaro (Cerbera manghas) can be used as a raw material for wood plastic composite (WPC), because it has lignocellulose fibers. The use of polypropylene (PP) plastic is an alternative for handling plastic waste. This study aims to determine the quality of WPC from fiber of bintaro and PP plastic waste matrix by testing (physical, mechanical, morphological and Fourier Transform Infra Red analysis) on ASTM standards. This study investigated the effect of raw materials composition and variations in compression temperature from bintaro fiber and PP waste on WPC. Bintaro fruit fiber and PP plastic waste are used as composite materials. PP plastic waste content varied 50, 60 and 70% of the weight of the composite with various pressing temperatures of 180˚C, 200˚C and 220˚C for 15 minutes and the pressure of 5 kgf/cm2. Bintaro fruit fiber is mixed with plastic waste manually and pressed with a size of 12 cm x 12 cm x 0.3 cm. The each treatment was carried out in 3 repetitions. Test performed based on ASTM standars. The average value test of density at 0.70 g/cm3, moisture content at 1.15%, water absorption at 21.95%, thickness swelling at 3.91%, modulus of elasticity at 824.58 N/mm2, tensile strength at 8.98 N/mm2. Overall the values obtained meet the test standards, except for water absorption which is above 0.8%, thickness swelling above 1.0% and tensile strength less than standard at 38.24 N/mm2.
