Karakteristik Biopelet Dari Campuran Cangkang Biji Karet (Hevea Brasiliensis) Dan Limbah Serbuk Kayu Sebagai Bahan Bakar Alternatif
ABSTRACT
Along with the times and the rapid growth of the population, the need for energy
is increasing, so that a replacement energy source is needed in abundance,
environmentally friendly and at affordable prices. Biomass is one of the
technologies in creating alternative fuels. However, the energy conversion
problem is still low if it is burned directly and requires a large storage area so it
needs to be reprocessed into biopellets. Biopellet is a solid fuel from biomass
compression in the form of a cylinder with a length of 6-25 mm and a diameter of
12 mm and can be used as an alternative fuel. Several types of materials that have
the potential to be used as biomass are rubber seed shells and wood sawdust. The
higher the utilization, the better quality biopellet is needed. Therefore, it is
necessary to know the quality of biopellets made from a mixture of rubber seed
shells and wood sawdust based on SNI 801: 2014. Rubber seed shells and sawdust
can be used as biopellets. The characteristics of the biopellet obtained were a
density of 0.59 g/cm3; moisture content of 14.25%; ash content of 12.44%;
volatile matter content of 57.88%; bound carbon content of 12.44%; with a
calorific value of 4,601 cal/g. Although the addition of sawdust can increase the
characteristic value of the biopellet, the moisture content, ash content, and carbon
content still do not meet the SNI 8021:2014 standard. In addition, the pressure on
the molding process has an important role in increasing the characteristic value of
the biopellet.
