Da'wah is an effort to invite others to the teachings of Islam by first
developing oneself. One of the da'wah communication carried out in the
Correctional Institution. The phenomenon seen from drug convicts is that
prisoners experience family, psychological and religious problems and the added
social environment makes them use drugs.
The subjects of this research are drug convicts who are in the Pekanbaru
Class II Correctional Institution, while the object is da'wah communication. The
purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the form of communication
carried out by prison officers to drug convicts in improving the self-control of
drug convicts, to describe and analyze the ustadz da'wah communication
techniques used in improving the self-control of drug convicts, and to describe
and analyze the Self Control of Drug Prisoners. at the Class II Correctional
Institution in Pekanbaru. The data collection technique was done by observing,
interviewing and documenting.
The data analysis technique was carried out by the stages of data
presentation, data reduction, and conclusion / verification. The results showed
that the visible forms of da'wah communication were personal communication
and group communication. The visible forms of personal communication are
ustadz and prison guards directly inviting inmates to participate in religious
activities, for example in the case of the Koran, prayer, and so on. Then the form
of group communication that is carried out is with the inmates participating in the
recitation activity which is a routine program and must be followed by inmates at
the mosque by listening to religious lectures by the appointed ustadz. The visible
dakwah communication technique is coercive communication by giving orders,
this communication is carried out at the beginning of the prisoners entering the
prison and is applied to the da'wah coaching program which is carried out at the
mosque every day at 8 or 9 in the morning. Then the second da'wah
communication technique is persuasive communication (persuasive
communication) by inviting or persuading, this can be seen at the time of entering
prayer times where inmates are invited to pray at the mosque by prison guards
and clerics on duty. Self-control seen in prisoners is self-control, which can be
seen, for example, they already have their own initiative to come on time at 8 or 9
o'clock to participate in da'wah communication activities, they can also control
their emotions and attitudes in associating with fellow prisoners in prison.
