ABSTRACT
The area of the Tasik Besar Serkap Forest Management Unit is the largest remaining peat swamp forest area on the East Coast of Sumatra Island which has high conservation value. This peat swamp forest is a place for flora and fauna to live interrelated. This study aimed to determine the types of mammals in the Tasik Besar Serkap Forest Management Area (spesific area Block E). For collected data in this study used the line transects method with directly going to the field to obtain data at the area of the Tasik Besar Serkap Forest Processing Unit Block E. The data were analyzed using the formula for species diversity, species richness. Based on data processing obtained 12 types of mammals from nine types of families, namely, Special Area for the Tasik Besar Serkap Forest Processing Unit, the diversity index of mammal species is in the medium category with an average at 1.99 and the species richness index in the observation path is in the medium category with an index at 2.27.
