Fenomena Komunikasi Anggota Pencak Silat Kemenyan Putih Di Kabupaten Siak
This research is motivated by the author's interest in the phenomenon that occurs to
members of the Kemenyan Putih pencak silat in Siak Regency. This is driven by the
high interest of the community to join the Kemenyan Putih Pencak Silat College,
while at this time there are many modern martial arts colleges that allow them to
compete at the world level. related to martial arts, but there is also mysticism based
on the customs of the Siak kingdom and combined with Islamic law. Therefore, this
study aims to determine the motives of a person becoming a member of the Kemenyan
Putih pencak silat, the meaning of the practice and the meaning of the pencak silat
ritual of Kemenyan Putih, as well as the communication experience of the members of
the Kemenyan Putih pencak silat in Siak Regency.
This study uses a qualitative research method using a phenomenological
approach consisting of 8 informants selected using a purposive sampling technique
and collecting data and information through in-depth interviews, participant
observation and documentation. In this study, the authors used Miles and
Huberman's interactive data analysis techniques, where the data obtained from
observations and interviews were reprocessed by the authors who then entered the
data reduction stage. To carry out the validity data, the author uses the technique of
extending participation, increasing persistence, and comparing with various sources.
The results showed that the motives of a person becoming a member of the
Kemenyan Putih pencak silat consist of motives because which include motives for
expression, acts of violence, making many friends, becoming a professional athlete,
curiosity, and invitations from friends. And the motive of hope is to be able to do selfdefense,
increase self-confidence, and get recognition. Furthermore, the meaning of
exercise which consists of sports, arts and culture and mental development, as well as
the meaning of ritual as a suggestion, tradition and culture, and belief. Furthermore,
pleasant communication experiences include getting special treatment from the
coach, adding new relationships, participating in martial arts competitions, and
doing social activities, while unpleasant experiences include being involved in
conflicts with members, fatal injuries during training, unpleasant treatment from
other universities, and getting disturbance of supernatural beings.
