Forests that can produce natural resources are forests that are maintained and
managed properly. Forests that can produce natural resources are forests that are
maintained and managed properly. Indonesian people in each region have their
own traditions and culture in maintaining and managing forests. This research
was conducted to see how the people in the Petapahan village manage the forest
around them. The forest that is directly adjacent to the village of Petapahan is the
Imbo Putui Indigenous forest.
This research was carried out in the Imbo Putui Indigenous forest,
Petapahan village, Kampar Regency, Riau Province for 2 months (December
2020-January 2021) using the purposive sampling method. Informants were
obtained by selecting people who understood how to manage the Imbo Putui
customary forest. Data were collected using participatory observation techniques,
in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The data were analyzed using
qualitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that there are still people
who manage customary forests by applying local culture, one of which is in the
field of utilization. The community utilizes forest products in a way that does not
violate the rules that have been set, both oral rules that have been believed and
trusted by the community from the past and written rules, and there is still a
tradition of bathing together which is still carried out today. This tradition or
culture can provide awareness to the community about the importance of good
protection and management. In addition, traditional leaders and indigenous
peoples will provide sanctions that can provide a deterrent effect to violators who
want to destroy the forest.
