Ekstraksi Oleoresin Dari Serai Wangi
ABSTRACT
Fragrant lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.) is the most common spice plant in
Indonesia and one of the essential oil commodities that have considerable
prospects. The main content of essential oils from fragrant lemongrass in the form
of cyronelal and geraniol compounds. In this study, the utilization of the main
components of fragrant lemongrass was carried out in the form of oleoresin
extract. Oleoresin is a processed product of spice plants in the form of a mixture
of volatile oil (volatile oil) and resin (fix oil),which is usually a paste at room
temperature. Oleoresin is obtained by extracting good quality parts of the spice
plant using volatile organic solvents. Oleoresin contains a total taste and aroma
typical of its original ingredients. The separation of oleoresin from fragrant
lemongrass is carried out by the maceration method using ethanol and ethyl
acetate solvents. Extraction is carried out by the condition of a sample of fresh
and dried fragrant lemongrass in a sealed container for 3x24 hours. The
extraction result in the form of a mixture of oleoresin and solvent is concentrated
with a rotary evaporator so that it is obtained by a thick and concentrated
oleoresin. The resulting oleoresin is calculated and analyzed the quality of
oleoresin such as density, refractive index, water content, essential oil levels, pH
and organoleptic tests such as color, aroma, texture, and taste. The largest
fragrant lemongrass oleoresin was obtained in fresh sample conditions using an
ethanol solvent of 11,23%. The results of the analysis of the physical and
chemical properties of lemongrass oleoresin were obtained in fresh sample
conditions using ethanol solvents, namely obtained a density of 1,069 g/ml; a
refractive index of 1,354; water content of 10,5%; essential oil levels of 25%, and
pH of 5.
