Makna Simbolik Tradisi Adat Tardidi Pada Kelahiran Anak Etnik Batak Toba Di Kota Duri

ABSTRACT
Tardidi tradition is one of the traditions cultur from Batak Toba ethnic. This tardidi tradition has many symbolic aspects that need to be represented from attributes and societal behavior inside of tardidi tradition. This research aims to understand symbolic situations, social interaction products, and the interpretation tradition of tardidi for native Batak Toba ethnic in Duri city.
The research method uses qualitative with symbolic interaction approach. An informant in this research is eight people, 2 tradition leaders, 4 actors of traditional tardidi traditions which include parents of children, grandmothers and uncle and 2 common society from Batak Toba ethnic. Selecting informants in this research uses purposive techniques based on certain criteria. Data collecting technique uses observation, deep interview, and documentation
Research results show the meaning of tradition symbolic for native Batak Toba Ethnic in Duri city have physical object and social objects. The physical object involves dekke mas meaning purity of life and peace, ulos parompa meaning salvation from bad influence, boras sipir ni tondi meaning blessed their soul “spirit” in order to kids stay strong, tumpak meaning affection symbol, jambara meaning for remembering their family tree and pasahat parsituak an tonggi meaning symbol of respect. Social object involve prayer meaning communication to God and umpasa meaning the communication language of a parable to deliver advice. significance social product of tardidi tradition involve significance tradition leader, parents from a child, grandmothers, uncle and common society of Batak Toba a ethnic. Significance of tardidi tradition involves open behavior and close behavior. Close behavior involves internal motivation while open behavior involve facial expression.
