Pemanfaatan Getah Perca (Palaquium Gutta) Oleh Masyarakat Kabupaten Lingga, Kepulauan Riau
ABSTRACT
Lingga District, Riau Archipelago Province, has a wealth of natural resources in the agricultural, plantation and forestry sectors. Apart from utilizing timber forest products, the community also utilizes non-timber forest products, one of which is Gum Perca (Palaquium gutta). The use of percha sap by the community has been carried out since the time of the Lingga Sultanate (1824-1911) as a source of the local community's economy and this utilization lasted until the 1990s. This study aims to determine the utilization of the gutta percha tree and to analyze the factors that influence its use by the people of Lingga Regency. Data were collected using snowball sampling involving key informants and analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results showed that previously, patchouli sap was widely harvested and used as an industrial material for underwater cables, golf balls and medical equipment, but now the trees are being cut down for carpentry and household furniture materials. Factors that influence utilization are low market prices and the difficult tapping process so that people are no longer interested in becoming gutta percha farmers.
Keywords: gum perca, Lingga Regency, utilization.
