Potensi Ekstrak Daun Eukaliptus (Eucalyptus Pellita) Sebagai Bioherbisida Dalam Pengendalian Gulma Kentangan (Borreria Alata (Aubl) Dc.)
Bioherbicide from Eucalyptus pellita leaf extract can be used to control
weeds in HTI plantations. One of which is Borreria alata (Aubl) DC. weed found
in E. pellita HTI plantations. Borreria alata (Aubl) DC., is a broadleaf weed that
frequently grows in E. pellita HTI plantations aged < 5 months, with a significant
importance value index of 83.99%, indicating its high dominance compared to
other weeds. The weed has reduced the dry weight and height of rubber seedlings
by 12% and 17%, respectively, making it necessary to control its population.
Bioherbicide from E. pellita leaf extract contains highly toxic
allelochemical compounds to other plants, making it a potential natural herbicide
material. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of E. pellita leaf
extract as a pre and post-emergence bioherbicide in controlling Borreria alata
(Aubl) DC., weed.
The research was carried out at the Seed Production Laboratory and Native
Plant Production House owned by an HTI company located in Siak Regency. The
study was conducted for 6 months from June 2022 to November 2022. The
research was conducted in two phases: pre-emergence and post-emergence tests.
The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with
7 treatments, including control (sprayed with aquades), extract with 25, 50, and
75% ethanol solvent, and extract with 25, 50, and 75% aquades solvent, repeated
four times. The parameters observed were the percentage of germination and the
length of shoots in the pre-emergence test, while plant height, phytotoxicity scale,
and weed control efficiency were measured in the post-emergence test. Extraction
was carried out using the Soxhlet method, and the total compound content was
analyzed by GC/MS. The observation data were analyzed using ANOVA at a 5%
level, followed by a DMRT 5% further test.
The results showed that E. pellita leaf extract at a concentration of 25% and
above could inhibit the germination of Borreria alata (Aubl) DC., weed, while at
a concentration of 75% with ethanol solvent, it showed weed control efficiency of
Borria alata (Aubl) DC., > 60%. Based on these results, E. pellita leaf extract has
the potential to be used as a natural pre and post-emergence herbicide material to
control Borreria alata (Aubl) DC. weed.
