Representasi Sosial Dan Politik Di Amerika Dalam Lirik Lagu American Idiot Karya Kelompok Musik Green Day

United State of America is a liberal country that put freedom base on many citizen’s life aspect include social and politic. Aspect of social and politic in America can be represented on many ways like on the lyric of a song. One of them that represented about social and politic in America is American Idiot, a song with sosial-politic theme by American rock band, Green Day. This research aims to find out the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth on American Idiot song lyric that represented about social and politic in America.
Method of this resesearch is qualitative research method with Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. Data was collected through documentation, library research, and interview. Data analysis unit in this research consist of 16 lyrics line on American Idiot song. Interview in this research concern to three informants who choose using purposive technique.
Result of this research socially represented about uncritical of American peole toward media and media has been a big part of American culture. Furthermore in 9/11 period media determine how American people react about that tragedy. Next thing socially represented that there is a discrimination to homesexual in America and there is a sentiment beetwen people in North and South America. Furthermore politically there was a significant changing on America’s policy after 9/11 and media has been a propaganda tool by the government at the time. Next thing represented South is the stronghold of Republican party. Beside that there is a insulting word to government in America when the government running by Republicans. The word is Redneck way to say insulting the government that they are dumb and they must be quit their job.
