ABSTRACT
Palm oil trunk (palm wood) is a solid waste with considerable potential and has not been
optimally utilized. Optimizing the utilization of palm oil stem waste can be used as a substitute
for the use of wood species which are increasingly expensive and have diminishing potential.
However, oil palm wood has a lower wood quality compared to commercial wood or coconut
wood. This reason makes the wood never used by the community and is left useless on the
plantation area. This research is expected to know the physical and mechanical properties of oil
palm trunk wood. (1) Make the size of the test object according to the standards of each test. (2)
after the size of the test object is appropriate, the test is carried out, each test follows the
predetermined standard. (3) after completing the test, the test results obtained include, (a)
testing the physical properties of the wood, knowing the length of time to decrease the moisture
content in each test sample, drying the sample until the weight of the sample is oven dry. The test
results, for a temperature of 100 ° drying for 36 hours, a temperature of 120 ° drying for 32
hours, a temperature of 140 ° drying for 24 hours, and a temperature of 160 ° drying for 20
hours. (b) the mechanical properties of wood, namely the parallel fiber compressive strength test
for the outer middle sample with the highest value found in the sample code TL-140 with an
average value of 167.78kg / cm2. For the middle sample, the highest average value is found in
the sample code TD-100 ° with a result of 69.00 kg / cm2. The fiber perpendicular compressive
strength test for the outer middle sample the highest average value is found in the sample code
TL-120 with a result of 75.75 kg / cm2, for the middle sample the highest average value is found
in the sample code TD-100 with a result of 34.96 kg / cm2.
