The development of technology in the field of education has brought changes in the way of teaching and learning, especially in the use of digital learning media. One innovation that can be used to improve the quality of learning is the development of PBL-based E-LKPD. E-LKPD is designed to facilitate students in learning subject matter interactively and independently with an approach that prioritizes problem solving. In the excretory system material, the use of the PBL model in E-LKPD is expected to increase student motivation and understanding, who often find it difficult with the complexity of this material.
Observations at school show that the lack of mastery of biology lessons, especially in the excretory system material, can be seen from the daily test scores for the excretory system material which are still relatively low below the minimum completion criteria. This is because students find it difficult to understand the learning material, the material tends to be boring because of the many explanations of material concepts with text presentations so that the learning process requires students to memorize terminology and Latin in the introduction of organs involved in the excretory system process, it is difficult to distinguish the excretion process in humans, and an understanding of the process of urine formation which is difficult for students to understand. These problems make students feel bored and fed up in the learning process, thus affecting students' motivation to learn biology material.
Efforts made to overcome this problem by developing learning strategies and developing teaching materials that can facilitate all student activities, namely by using PBL-based E-LKPD on the excretory system material on the learning motivation of class XI high school students. The existence of E-LKPD focuses more on the process of discovering concepts with the support of stimulus variations that can present images, videos, or audio learning (Harahap, 2024). According to Arifin et al., (2023) E-LKPD can increase active involvement in the learning process by solving real problems, which makes learning more interesting and relevant.
The purpose of this study was to produce teaching materials in the form of PBL-based E-LKPD on the excretory system material on the learning motivation of high school grade XI students. This research was conducted at the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Riau and SMAN 8 Pekanbaru. The research time was May 2024 - January 2025. This study used the ADDIE model R&D development research method. This research was carried out until the development stage. The types of data collected were descriptive qualitative data and quantitative analysis. The data collection instruments in this study were in the form of media validation sheets with aspects of assessing the presentation of teaching materials, the feasibility of graphics, images, illustrations and videos, display quality, E-LKPD usage system, validity of language presentation, and learning motivation. Material validation sheets with aspects of assessing content validity, and presentation validity, as well as response questionnaires with aspects of assessing content feasibility, design, pedagogy, display, usefulness, learning motivation, and use. After the E-LKPD was validated by 4 validators, a limited trial phase 1 was conducted on 10 Biology Education students, and a limited trial phase 2 was conducted on 30 grade XII students of SMAN 8 Pekanbaru.
The results of dat.a analysis in this study, the developed E-LKPD has very good quality with a quality score of 89.29%. The quality of E-LKPD was analyzed based on the results of media expert validation getting an average assessment of 90.83% with a very valid category, material expert validation getting an average assessment of 81.70% with a valid category, the average of limited trials stage 1 on students getting an average assessment of 94.24% with very good interpretation criteria, and the average of limited trials stage 2 on students getting an assessment of 87.37% with very good interpretation criteria.
The conclusion of this study, based on the results of validation by the validator, and the questionnaire of respondents of limited trials stages 1 and 2 by respondents, overall E-LKPD based on problem based learning (PBL) on the material of the excretory system on the learning motivation of grade XI high school students is very well applied in the learning process.
