The implementation of the duties of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for Waste Management is an integral part of efforts to manage waste efficiently and sustainably in a region. The main tasks of this UPTD include collecting, transporting, sorting, and processing waste, which is carried out by utilizing environmentally friendly technology and systems. The obstacles faced include budget constraints, lack of public awareness, and infrastructure problems, but various innovations and mitigation programs continue to be carried out to overcome these challenges.
The purpose of this study was to determine the role of UPTD in managing waste in Mandau District. This study used qualitative research. Data collection through observation, interview and documentation techniques. Waste management is a process that involves collecting, transporting, sorting, processing, and disposing of waste with the aim of reducing negative impacts on the environment and human health. In this context, effective waste management depends not only on the role of the government, but also on the awareness and active participation of the community. Various waste management methods, such as recycling, composting, and the use of environmentally friendly technology, are increasingly being prioritized to reduce the volume of waste entering the final disposal site (TPA). However, waste management faces a number of challenges, including minimal management facilities, lack of public awareness, and budget constraints. Therefore, an integrated strategy is needed between government policies, technology, and public education in order to realize sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management.
