Ferroelectric materials are a special type of dielectric material in the form of thin films, widely applied in transducers, switches, sensors, capacitors, and memory devices due to their ease of modification and permanent properties. In this study, thin films of (0.4)BaTiO₃-(0.6)BaZr₀.₅Ti₀.₅O₃ (BT-BZT) were doped with pineapple peel extract and tantalum at concentrations of 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt%, and 1.5 wt% for use as dielectric materials in multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The films were synthesized using the sol-gel method on a Fluorine-doped Tin Oxide (FTO) substrate, followed by annealing at 700°C for 60 minutes. The samples were characterized using Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray (FESEM-EDX), and Impedance Spectroscopy. The addition of pineapple peel extract and tantalum was aimed at reducing grain size and enhancing dielectric permeability. The UV-Vis absorption spectra revealed optical absorption peaks at 314 nm, 313 nm, and 312 nm for BTZ0.5, BTZ1.0, and BTZ1.5, respectively, with corresponding band gap energy values of 2.710 eV, 2.732 eV, and 2.744 eV. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that BTZ0.5 and BTZ1.0 exhibited an amorphous structure, while BTZ1.5 displayed a tetragonal crystalline structure with a crystallite size of 11.81 nm. The morphology analysis showed irregular spherical grain shapes, with grain sizes decreasing to 62.657 ± 0.63 nm, 57.122 ± 0.49 nm, and 48.255 ± 0.31 nm for BTZ0.5, BTZ1.0, and BTZ1.5, respectively. The capacitance values measured at 1 kHz were 19,800 F, 44,376 F, and 45,000 F for BTZ0.5, BTZ1.0, and BTZ1.5, respectively, with dielectric constant values of 372, 373, and 1,000. The dielectric loss values were recorded at 0.067, 0.068, and 0.017. The dielectric loss analysis suggests that samples (a) BTZ0.5 and (b) BTZ1.0 are not yet optimal for MLCC X9R applications, as they do not meet the required specifications. However, sample (c) BTZ1.5 meets the criteria and is suitable for application in MLCC X9R.
