ABSTRACT
Aromatherapy candles are an alternative application of inhalation, namely the inhalation of aroma vapors produced from a few drops of oil derived from plant extracts. The aroma used is citronella oil extract solution obtained from soxhletation extraction of citronella with ethanol solvent. This study aims to make aromatherapy candles with citronella oil extract and to perform characteristic and organoleptic tests on aromatherapy candles. The test results for the characteristics of the melting point and burning time produced in this study refer to SNI 06-0386-1989-A/SII 0348-1980. The resulting melting points were 57 oC, 56 oC, 56 oC, 54 oC and the resulting burn times were 34, 35, 48 and 65 minutes, respectively. The best color assessment organoleptic test results were found in the addition of 5 ml citronella oil extract which was preferred by 100% of the panelists to produce a yellowish white color. The best aroma before burning is found in the variation of adding 5 ml citronella oil extract preferred by 100% of the panelists to produce citronella oil extract. The best after-burning aroma was found in the variation of adding 7 ml citronella oil extract which was preferred by 100% of the panelists to produce citronella aroma. From the results of the tests carried out, the characteristics of the aromatherapy candles produced are in accordance with SNI 06-0386-1989-A/SII 0348-1980.
