Prarancangan Pabrik Asam Asetat Proses Monsanto Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Karbonilasi Metanol (R-101)
Acetic acid, also known as vinegar, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CH3COOH, which is a colorless liquid with a very sharp odor. Acetic acid plays a role as a basic chemical used in various industries as an intermediate compound that serves as raw material for various industries. Acetic acid is produced either synthetically or through bacterial fermentation. Fermentation-based acetic acid production accounts for only about 10% of global production, mainly for food vinegar production. The synthesis process of acetic acid can be carried out in several ways, including methanol carbonylation using BASF and Monsanto processes, direct hydrocarbon oxidation, and acetaldehyde oxidation processes. The methanol carbonylation process is the preferred method for producing acetic acid, with methanol and carbon monoxide as the main raw materials. This plant is planned to operate for 330 days per year and continuously for 24 hours/day with a capacity of 50,000 tons/year to be located in Bontang City, East Kalimantan Province. The chosen company structure is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational system. The employee work system is based on shift and non-shift schedules. The main equipment design in this plant is the Fixed Bed Multitube Reactor (R-101), which functions to react methanol with carbon monoxide to form acetic acid with a 90% conversion rate, operated at a pressure of 30 atm and a temperature of 175°C. Economic analysis in the design of this plant shows that it is feasible to establish it with a Break Even Point (BEP) production value of 39.79%, a Pay Back Period (PBP) of 1.7 years, a Rate of Investment (ROI) of 45.69%, and an Interest Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.61%.
