“Kaji Eksperimental Performansi Alat Pengering Tenaga Surya Tipe Kabinet Dengan Pemanas Tambahan Jenis Pemanasan Langsung Untuk Pengeringan Pisang”

Open sun-drying was commonly used to dry the bananas. Fresh bananas are spread on bamboo’s tray and exposed to solar radiation without any covers. The bananas were usually contaminated by insects, animals and dusts which can make the bananas have a low quality. Therefore, an appropriate dryer is needed to solve this problem. Solar dryer cabinet type was considered as an alternative device. This study was conducted to determine the performance of the solar dryer cabinet by experimental method.A solar dryer cabinet consists of solar collector, heating plate, drying chamber, glass cover and six racks. The drying time of banana using solar dryer was 8 hours as compared with 8 hours in dryer using LPG. 3 kilograms banana were dried and take place on six racks.The result of using dryer cabinet with solar radiation gives the average temperature of 44,18 °C inside and 67,55 °C using LPG. The dryer with solar radiation has reduced the mass of banana approximately 42,53 % than initial mass. With LPG could reduce approximately 61,16 %. Drying efficiency with dryer using solar radiation was 32,54 % and 9,27 % when using dryer with LPG.
