Kinetics of nyamplung oil is studied to have a chemical reaction mechanisms operating conditions, methods of control a well as determine factors that influence the transesterification reaction of nyamplung oil. The purpose of this research is to produce biodiesel from oil using catalysts palm empty fruit bunches as well as determine the optimum conditions. To calculate the data there are two order kinetics were tested first order and second order by method of direct search using matlab program. Research procedure started with burning oil palm empty fruit bunches, and then it oven at 110oC for 2 h for drying and subsequently sieved at 100 mesh size and furnaced at a temperature of 600oC. After that nyamplung is esterified at 60oC, using a catalyst H2SO4, and oil ratio 1:20 for 1.5 hours. The transesterification reaction is carried out at a temperature variation of 50oC, 60oC, 70oC, having variation of methanol : oil 3: 1, 6: 1, 9: 1 respectively and a various variation of catalyst 1%, 2%, 3% for 105 minutes. The optimum condition was obtained at 60 ° C,methanol:oil ratio 9: 1 and catalyst 3%, produced 80.49% conversion. The reaction is taken placedas order 2 with k1 = 0.075 L / (mol.menit) and k2 = 0.0085 L / (mol.menit) and Ea of k1 = 19.653 kJ / mol and Ea of k2 = 16.490 kJ / mol.
