Mitigasi Konflik Gajah Sumatera (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus ) Dengan Masyarakat Di Sekitar Pt. Rimba Peranap Indah (Rpi)
ABSTRACT
Forest is an ecosystem that is very important for living things, especially as a life
support function. The existence of forests in Riau with its condition from year to year
shows a decline in forest quality. Sumatran elephant habitat reduction continuously so that
conflicts often occur after the conversion of forest or elephant habitat into oil palm
plantations or industrial forest plantations. This study aims to determine the level of
success of the community and company efforts in dealing with elephant conflicts, to find
out the methods, techniques and costs used by the community and PT. Rimba Peranap
Indah in reducing the risk of conflict and to determine the value of losses experienced by
the community and companies due to elephant conflicts. with humans around PT. Rimba
Peranap Indah. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and in-depth
interviews. The study used purposive sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively
qualitatively. The results of the study show that: Based on the indicators applied. Efforts to
overcome conflict by the community and companies so far have not succeeded in
overcoming elephant disturbances, especially in the long term. Efforts to overcome
elephant disturbances that have been carried out by many communities and companies so
far are only temporary, namely by expulsion and making warning boards. The methods or
techniques used in mitigating elephant conflicts around PT. RPI by using the sounds that
come from the carbide cannon. The cost of making a carbide cannon is around Rp.
250.000,-. The value of losses suffered by the community in their agricultural business due
to conflicts with elephants ranges from Rp. 500.000, - up to Rp. 30,000,000,-
