Efektivitas Ekstrak Biji Pinang (Areca Catechu L.) Terhadap Mortalitas Wereng Batang Padi Coklat (Nilaparvata Lugens Stal.) Di Laboratorium
ABSTRACT
Rice plant (Oryza sativa L.) is the main food source that provides calories and nutrition which is the staple food for Indonesian society. Rice plant cultivation is inseparable from pests the disturbance. One of the main pest that attacks rice plants is the brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stal.) because it can cause decrease in rice production up to 100% by causing hopperburn symptoms and become a desease vector. One of the plants that has potential as a plant-based insecticide is the areca nut (Areca catechu L.). This research aims to obtain an effective concentration of areca nut (Areca catechu L.) extract on the mortality of brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stal.). The research was conducted at the Plant Pest Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University from February 2023 to April 2023 using Random Abound Layout (RAL) consisting of five treatment concentrations with four replications. The treatment given was the concentration of areca nut extract with the following concentrations: A0 0 g.l-1 water, A1: 25 g.l-1 water, A2: 50 g.l-1 water, A3: 75 g.l-1 water, and A4: 100 g.l-1 water. The results showed that application of areca nut extract gave a significant effect on the mortality of brown planthopper. The concentration that effective on brown planthopper mortality was 50 g.l-1 water concentration with total mortality reaching 80.00%, initial time of death 5.00 hours after application and lethal time 50 at 46.25 hours after application.
